PREFACE

This dissertation studythe effect of social capital on service industry cluster。In the process of transformation from industrial economy to service economy, on the one hand national service industry get the rapid development, on the other hand, national service industry has spatial concentration, and agglomeration has an important influence on the economic growth, and competitiveness of service industry。Scholars are concerned about the research about service industry cluster, but the research of service industry from the perspective of social capital agglomeration is rare, and more of which is used the qualitative methods. Service industry agglomeration is the external manifestations of all kinds of social capital in essence, social capital measurement is difficult, and its research is later than other economics research, which limits the research on how to promote the service industry agglomeration by social capital. In this paper, from the perspective of social capital, we study the whole process of service industry agglomeration, by means of econometric analysis to construct the analysis framework of relationship between social capital and service industry agglomeration, in order to seek the inner rules of the relationship between social capital and the service industry, which has important theoretical and practical significance.

Specifically, combining the existent research about social capital and service industry cluster, first of all we measure the degree of service industry agglomeration, and then divide the agglomeration evolution process into three sta-ges： The formation stage, the development stage and the upgrade stage. We use simulated data, empirical analysis and case analysis, constructing the role of social capital in the every stage of agglomeration. This paper found the following aspects：

Firstly, Service industry are exist agglomeration phenomenon. From the perspective of region, spatial layout of service industry is not balanced inter province, service industry spatial layout also is not balanced in the representative provinces of Guangdong； from the industry point of view, the highest degree of agglomeration is consumer service industry, the minimum degree of agglomeration is public service industry.

Secondly, in every stage of the service industry agglomeration, social capital have significant effect in promoting the development of service industry. In the initial stage of agglomeration, social capital is conducive to service industry agglomeration； in the second stage of agglomeration, social capital is conducive to improve the performance of enterprises in the agglomeration region of service industry； in upgrade stage, social capital plays a major role in the upgrading of service industry agglomeration.

Thirdly, the role of social capital and government intervention in the agglomeration of the services sector can substitute each other. Government intervention plays a key role in the current service industry agglomeration. Our studies show that when the government intervention is a litter, the social capital has a stronger influence on the service industry agglomeration, and vice versa. At present, social capital in China's most areas is not in the state of saturation, at present we can use social capital replace government intervention in order to push service industry agglomeration in China.
